The memory of a city is sometimes hidden in the cargo of a ship docking at its harbor, sometimes in the name of a street, sometimes in the texture of a fabric. The 37 valuable applications to the Call for Memory Studies, which we, as the Hafıza İzmir team, announced in order to trace these traces, showed once again how many stories about our city are waiting to be discovered.
As a result of the evaluations, we included three project ideas that will trace these stories with us in our memory journey:
- “İzmir History Seminar Series” in cooperation with Justus Liebig University (Germany)”
- “The Place and Importance of Basmane and Basma Production in the Memory of the City and Space” in cooperation with Izmir Metropolitan Municipality”
- “Mapping Izmir's Commercial Spaces in the 19th and 20th Centuries” in collaboration with the History Foundation”
